It's a scam. You're about to be ****** into it. The so-called buyer's protection doesn't exist.

As mentioned before, he could obtain a VIN off of any dealer's web ad, or from Autotrader or similar websites.

Oh, and let us know if he comes back with his cell number. I'll bet you a case of Nut Brown Ale that he'll say one of several things:

1) I don't have a cell phone or any other phone.
2) I'm out of the country and cannot call you or be called.
3) (My favorite)- I lost my voice and cannot speak.

Please understand that this scam has been performed hundreds of times per day on folks that do not follow three simple rules:

1) ALWAYS meet the buyer in person. If you can't see/feel/touch/drive the car, then you should back out.
2) Never take anything told to you on email at face value (a HUGE mistake you seem to be making).
3) If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Move on, keep your money.

Its a scam – its been here a hundred times. Avoid it and buy a car you can see, feel, drive and inspect first.

VIN means nothing. Give me 10 minutes, a pad of paper, and drop me off at WalMart. I will have 50 VIN numbers before you pick me up again.

its a scam, no such thing as a ebay buyer protection program… they ebay links he gave you he generated them himself… play around with him tell him you want to come pick the car up in person watch what bull sht answer he gives you…

Ya, it's a scam. Would you actually want to buy a car w/o seeing it? I should think not. His story of receiving money after you get the car isn't true. Once you send money, it's gone. Period. Now, if your in the mood for a nice car, my mother is selling this car. One rule: You absolutely must see this car. It's gorgeous she won't sell the car unless you do come out see it. It's located one hr S of Chicago. This is one of those rare grandma driven cars that's been garage kept all of its life.

Edit: The VIN could be any VIN from the same model. He probably got it off some random car on the street. Then you send him money, he keeps it and skips town and you have no money and no car.
