How do you track down a 66 Corvette stingray?

I'm trying to track down my dad's first car. It was a 66 in maroon, black interior, 4 speed manual, hopped up 327 (not original, but may have been put back to factory 327). It was wrecked 3 times (at least). Bought and sold in Pensacola, FL. Any tips for narrowing it down?

If he has a record of whom he sold it to you could try to track them down and then follow the paper trail if they also sold it. I'm not sure about FL, but most state DMV's won't give out ownership info. even if you had the VIN#. If it has a long period of time since he owned it, it may be nearly impossible.
