The 1999 Chevy Cavalier is not a great car. If you can afford an import,it might be worth waiting. Carplaints.com lists on a scale of 1-10 problems with the car as: Heating and A/C a 9 out of 10, then Engine-a 6 out of 10 and finally, electrical-a 3 out of 10. Sound like you might get engine problems and most probably A/C problems. If you can't afford more and can't ask for a loan from your parents, then $1000.00 isn't a lot for a car. But if you can wait and look for a better deal I'd recommend it.

Just have the car inspected by a mechanic. This will ensure that the car is mechanically sound and no problems exist. My aunt owned a 1994 cavalier. she drove it off the lot in 94. 15 years later it still runs strong. I am thinking about getting one of these when i turn 16. thats only 6months. Just drive safe and wear your seatbelt.

I had a 99 cavalier for my first car, and it was perfect for me. I payed $1500 for mine and got a good 2 years out of it, until I sold it for $1000 to upgrade.

NO they are junk…. I have had three and they all had problems even the newer ones

They aren't terrible cars but they do tend to have exhaust problems more than other cars. You do have to start somewhere tho!!

You'd be more satisfied with sticking hot pokers in your eye than owning any Cavalier.
